When I found the Grouse Vista trail on alltrails, little did I know it would become a favorite. It was simply the highest point within an hour or so from Portland. The snow was not something I was entirely prepared for.

first and last time I wore a cotton hoodie on a winter hike

was sinking into the snow quite a bit, periodically up to my knees. later learned this is called 'post-holing' and its typically avoided if possible
